How Long Does Hemp Clothing Last? What Our Oldest Pieces Show
We released the Daffodil dress in 2022. It is still selling in 2026, and the people who bought it four years ago are still wearing it.
That is the most direct answer we can give on hemp durability. Not a lab figure or an industry claim — just what our own oldest pieces are doing, four years on.
The pieces that have been out longest
The Daffodil was one of our first releases, in 2022. It is still in the collection, still being ordered, and we have not changed the construction. The Iris Pearl co-ord followed in 2023 and has had the same run.
Neither is a limited piece we keep listed for show. They sell because people keep buying them, which is the only durability test that means anything commercially.
What customers tell us years later
We don't have a folder of customer photos taken three years on — people don't usually think to send those, and we have never asked.
What we do have is what customers say when we meet them again. The consistent report is that the colour hasn't faded and the garment still feels the same. Nobody has come back to tell us a piece gave out.
What fails first? We can't tell you
This is the question we get asked and cannot answer honestly, so here is the honest version instead.
Since 2021, we have had no reports of seams giving way, embroidery coming loose, or fabric thinning. Rashmi still wears pieces from our first collection and has seen none of it on her own garments either.
If pressed, the reasonable guess is the hand embroidery, since it is the only part of the garment made entirely by hand and the only part that could catch on something. But that is reasoning, not experience, and we would rather say so than present a guess as a finding. A piece that is badly mishandled can be damaged — that is true of any garment. Nothing has failed in normal wear.
Zero repair requests
In five years we have not received a single repair request.
We get exchanges, and we get sizing queries — those are constant, and we have written elsewhere about why. What we do not get is anyone asking us to fix a garment that has worn out.
Why hemp behaves this way
Hemp fibre is longer and stronger than cotton fibre. Where most fabrics degrade with washing, hemp softens instead — it loses stiffness without losing strength. So a hemp garment's handle improves over its life while its structure holds.
That is the opposite of how most clothing ages, and it is the practical case for paying more upfront. A piece you wear for four years costs less per wear than three cheaper pieces replaced each year, and it keeps one fewer garment out of landfill each time.
What we still don't know
Four years is what we can speak to, because that is how long we have existed. We cannot tell you what a THOH piece looks like at year ten, and any brand that tells you it can is guessing.
What we can tell you: four years in, our oldest designs are still selling, our oldest customers are still wearing them, and nobody has asked us to repair anything.
